Modes of Operation
MODES OF OPERATION
In this configuration you can select Modes 1 to 8. For a description of these Modes click on the links in the menu. In these Modes the module transmits one ON signal and one OFF signal so you can control one remote control electrical socket independently or as many sockets as you like at the same time if they are all paired to the same signal. See video here and instructions about 'pairing' the sockets to the Module.
When a GPIO pin on your Raspiberry Pi or output pin on your microcontroller goes HIGH (between 3v and a max. of 5v) our Module transmits a radio signal at 433MHz to turn a socket ON. When the signal from the Raspberry Pi or microcontroler goes LOW, our Module transmits another signal turning the socket OFF. The socket only remains ON for as long as the GPIO pin or microcontroller pin remains HIGH. See video here.
PAIRING: The first thing we have to do is to pair the socket or sockets to our Module. See our Youtube video.The easiest way to do that is to make sure the power is disconnected from the Module. Then temporarily connect the 3.3V pin to pin D10 with a jumper wire. This is the Raspi Mode. Don't worry if you don't want to use RaspiMode, you can dispense with it once pairing the sockets to the Module is complete.
Turn the power on to the Module. Then press the pairing button on the socket of your choice. Usually this will result in a flashing light on the socket. You release the pairing button and then make pin D2 HIGH by connecting it temporarily to the 3.3V pin with a jumper wire. The socket will then turn ON. Remove the wire from the D2 slot on the breadboard and the socket will power OFF.
If you wish to pair further sockets to pins D3 up to pin D9 then you can do so. Your Module is now paired with the socket or sockets. Turn the power off and disconnect the jumper wire from pin D10, unless you wish to remain in Raspi Mode. You can then choose whichever of the Modes you want by following the instructions in the links above.
MODE SELECTION: We select the desired mode by making pins D2, D3,D4, D9,D10 or A1 either HIGH or LOW. We do this by connecting these pins to the 3.3v pin using the jumper wires supplied. You can then operate the Module in 10 different modes described in the links above. The power should be disconnected when you are connecting the jumper wires.
IMPORTANT:Disconnect the power supply before connecting the various pins.
You need to supply an old mobile phone/cell phone for the Turnitonfromanywhere Mode and DTMF Mode. For the Turnitonfromanywhere Mode the backlight on the screen must stay illuminated for as long as the phone is ringing. We call this the receiver phone or Rx. To turn the socket ON or OFF you make a call from any type of phone, mobile/cell phone or landline or even web phone. We call this phone the transmitter phone or Tx. You need to find out how long the back light stays on, on the receiver phone Rx, for a given number of rings from your transmitter phone Tx.
The critical thing to find out is how many rings of Tx will keep the backlight on Rx, ON for 20 seconds or more. For example, when I ring the my old phone which is attached to the Module, it takes 5 rings to keep the back light on for just over 20 seconds. Remember that the backlight will probably stay on for a while after you terminate the call. You will need to test this yourself because your phone may be different. With most phones two rings from the transmitter phone will turn the back light on for under 20 seconds and seven or eight rings will keep the backlight on for longer than 20 seconds and under 40 seconds.
The Module is attached to your old mobile phone by means of the LDR (light dependent resistor) and black tape for Modes 1 to 8. When your mobile receives a call the backlight comes on for a period of time. This is sensed by the LDR which activates the socket depending on the amount of time the backlight stays lit.
Mode 1 turns the socket ON with a long number of rings and OFF with a short numbers of rings.
Mode 2 turns the socket ON with a short number of rings and OFF with a long number of rings.
Modes 3 to 7 operate like a countdown timer. If the times mentioned don't suit your particular application please let us know and we will adjust the countdown times to match your needs.
Modes 3 turns the socket ON for 1 second.
Mode 4 turns the socket ON for 30 seconds
Mode 5 turns the socket ON for 60 seconds.
Mode 6 turns the socket ON for 30 minutes.
Mode 7 turns the socket ON for 60 minutes.
Mode 8 toggles the socket ON and OFF.

Please follow the links for a detailed description of each mode. As you can see, Modes 3 to 7 operate like a countdown timer turning the socket OFF automatically when the time runs out. Mode 8 toggles the socket ON and OFF with each alternate phone call. If the count down times don't suit your intended use, let us know when ordering and we will adjust the timings for you.
